RE: Good Combo?

I told the wife I should get a dually for future upgrades, but she didn't like the "hips". HAHA, I am not planning on getting the new 5er for awhile yet since the camping season is nearly over. I was hoping my current truck could do the job safely with most of the camping within 150 miles of home. I would prefer not to upgrade the TV for a few more years.

RE: Good Combo?

RAWR is 7000lbs and GCWR is 21,000. Each tire is 3670 max. Funny thing is this trailer has the heaviest pin weight out of all the 2008 Jayco Eagles and I thought the rear kitchens would have a lighter pin weight.

RE: Good Combo?

Interstingly if I go to 4.3 gears then max towing goes too 15,400.

RE: Good Combo?

12,500 is the convential trailer max weight, not fifth wheel. 13,900 is correct. I have the ford trailer guide from 2005 on pdf file.

Good Combo?

I have a 2005 F350 SRW CC 4x4 Auto Shortbed v-10 4:10's, with camper pkg etc....I would like to tow a Jayco Eagle 5th wheel model 313RK. Brochue says dry weight is 10,120 and pin is 2440. My truck has a 3500 lb payload rating and a max trailer weight of 13,900. Any thoughts from all you experienced 5er men and women? I would be getting a slider hitch as well. Thanks for your input, and if anyone can provide real weights for this model that would be fantastic. Thank you!

RE: Arctic Fox 26Z2/Any Problem Towing With My 2007 GMC 1500?

IS your truck an 8 lug half ton? GM made some "Heavy Half Tons" that are really 8600 gvw regular duty 3/4. The newer HD 3/4 tons are 9600 gvw. If not you gonna be at max if not abit over. If you do have 8 lugs your good to go. Hope this helps.

RE: New TT and TV Decision

Remeber tongue weights in the manual are WAY too light. My Jayco says 705lbs tongue and I used a Sherline Tongue weight scale and it was 950 with freshwater and 1050 without. That was before I loaded it for a trip. Will you pull your new trailer with the Toyota....yep, but WD hitchs do not transfer weight back to trailer. If the bars are pulling up that just shifts weight forward on all TV axels. Besides they are weight distribution not weight reducing hitches. You should be ok, just near the limits. Problem is the P rated tires vs LT tires and other small things. Toyota Tundra should do well for 5 or 6 short trips a year but not anything too far. I went from a new Half ton to a 1 Ton sigle wheel and its night and day as far as trailer control. The 1 Ton DOMINATES the trailer, where as the 1/2 ton is civil at best in higher winds etc. Just drive slow when needed and stay safe!

The best way to save money for gas!

I was reading about the new Yukon/Tahoe Hybrid. 50,000 Plus for one? No wonder automakers are struggling. With 10,000 down on a 5 year note payment is still nearly 800 a month. Sheesh, I got an idea. If I pay off my 2005 F350 and by a little commuter for cash, then my 500 a month payment can buy alot more gas or better yet most of it will go to savings. Wow, what a concept. I just wanna thank big oil for raping me at the pump. You guys have got me to realize that these overpriced gas guzzlers should be bought used, payed off asap and kept for 20 years. My grandpa still has his 1984 1ton F350 dually. 8MPG? who cares its paid for and his subaru gets nearly 35 mpg. Sorry guys, just needed to vent.

RE: Eqaulize Hitch Question

Ya those tools listed are used to assemble the hitch. I got a deep 1 inch socket today at Sears and that seems to fit the adjustment nuts just fine. Thanks!

Eqaulize Hitch Question

Hey all, I have the Eqaulizer 1000/10,000 hitch and I am wondering whats the socket size for the bolts that maintain the pressure on the spring bars at the head. The nuts that are supposed to be tightened often to maintain sway control, should be like 45lbs to 60lbs of torque. The downloadable manaual doesn't say and my instruction book is in the trailer at another location. If you can tell me I would appreciate it, Thanks Bill.

What kind of jack do you carry?

Hello, I was wondering what kind of jack do you TT owners carry for the dreaded flat tire? I am thinking about getting a bottle jack. Please tell me any thoughts or concerns. Thanks

RE: Washington State Campgrounds

Thanks all. I was thinking about 3 hours from Seattle. I have checked out and used the WA State Parks Webpage and found most of the sites are booked into June and July. So any ideas on private parks? Thanks again.

Washington State Campgrounds

Hello all! The DW and I area going to be camping in our home State of Washington. We live close to Seattle and were wondering if some fellow campers could recommend some nice parks. One with full hookups would be best as we are new to rving and don't have the gear for dry camping. If you have pictures that would be even better! thanks and see you on the road.....Bill

Redwood National Forest

Hey all! I am planning on taking the family and new TT to the redwoods this August. Does anyone have any recommendations for a nice RV campground near there? We prefer the more rustic type camping but with hookups, not a fan of the KOA type parks. Hmm those two can be tough to find together sometimes. Any ideas would be greatly appreicated, Thanks! Bill

RE: Actual Weight Questions

Ok here it goes. I have the same Trailer you have, a 2008 Jayco G2 26bhs. I used a brand new sherline tongue weight scale and unloaded weight was 950. Once I was loaded it was 1050. Funny thing is the tongue was about 100lbs lighter with fresh water tank FULL yea I mean FULL. 950 with fresh water full 1050 with it empty. I am not sure where or how you measured your tongue weight but I hope this helps.

Wheel/Axle Noise

Hello, I have a brand new 08 Jayco G2 26 BHS. Tonight I picked up the trailer from the storage lot and took it home for loading for this weekend. I have only towed the trailer from the dealer to the storage place where it has sat for 3 weeks on a gravel lot. When I moved it tonight I kept hearing a weird noise from the driver side axle area. It sounded like a chain dragging or some kind of metal piece rattling. I did not notice this leaving the dealer and since I am going on the shakedown run this weekend I am abit concerned. I noticed this noise mostly at real low speeds. It even quit for a minute or so. Any thoughts? I am hoping a rock might have gotten into the wheel area and which I will be checking before we depart. We did load some items into the trailer but I see no signs of rubbing and there is NO way it could be close to wieght. Thanks for your help. I will also verify Jayco lubed the bearings as my dealer said NO we don't check for bearing grease on the new trailers...I couldn't believe this statement...oh well I learned a lesson here. Thanks again.

RE: Help me configure a new 2008 F250 w/ V10

Hi, I would tend to lean towards a truck I could grow into instead out of. I make good money as a civial servant but not enough to change out 40,000 to 50,000 vehicles every few years. You should buy the largest, most well optioned truck your budget will allow and keep the dang thing for 15 years or more. You never know what you will want in a trailer in years to come and having a truck that is well within its limits is much safer and cost effective. I would have never considered a DRW truck but I am now thinking this might be a good option. I just talked with my local dealer about a used 8.1L GMC 3500 crew, 4x4, with leather and all the goodies. ONLY 11,000 miles! Hope its not a flood rig! This way I can bring everything my wife desires. Ha,ha, good luck with your choice. bill

RE: I messed up the Jayco Tongue Weight

I have a 2006 Nissan Titan. 900lbs max tongue weight and 1000 max tongue rating for the hitch. The truck is rated to pull 9300 total weight.
